Much like a neon bar sign they are aimed at grabbing a person’s attention. they may be advertising a particular product – like a tasty beverage or such like. Or they might be more unique to the establishment and be merely welcoming people in.

It used to be that the only time you spotted one of these advertisements was if you were walking down a street of businesses.  They usually frequent the outside of establishments that serve drinks.  But that isn’t the case anymore.  Now you can see them in front of restaurants and clubs everywhere and they are even synonymous with dance clubs.

This technology has been around for many years, but it is still a mystery to many about how they actually work.   You have to start with a master glass blower who forms hollow tubing into whatever label you are trying to advertise.  The tubing is then vacuumed out and a very high electrical charge is applied.  The tubing is filled with an inert gas and another lower charge is applied that causes the gas to glow, giving it the signature appearance.  The type of gas injected along with the additional materials that are used determine which one of the approximate 150 colors available that you end up with.

When you spot these signs you will always see them up high and out of the reach of people.  There is a good reason for that.  Since the tubing is hollow and filled with a special gas it makes them very sensitive and easily broken.  Once they are damaged they have to be professionally repaired, which can be time consuming and costly.  Hanging them out of the grasp of patrons eliminates any such circumstance.

But there are other places that these signs can be found.  More and more people are using them to decorate various rooms of their homes.  A neon bar light can be seen in rec rooms or home bars and theater rooms.  Any place that we can entertain others or just our families is a great location for one.
